3 Ways To Grow Plants In The Winter

So its that time of year again. The leaves are falling and old man winter is getting a steady grip on the thermometers across the country. For most of us gardening geeks that means we have to wait till things thaw out to get back to our passion. Over the past few years I just couldn’t accept that fate!

I researched and researched the best ways to grow plants and vegetables in the winter day and night. I purchased a lot of crap I probably didn’t need. So I guess you can say that I am your test dummy for learning how to grow plants in the winter!

Here are the 3 ways I grow plants in the winter:

I purchased a complete indoor grow kit. This thing might not be meant for the average gardener if you know what I mean. Just check the link to get the joke. But man is this a great setup for growing all year round. I can see why it is popular with a certain crowd. The tent is top notch as well as the LED light. I was shocked at the quality of the products. I turned my spare bedroom into a garden with very little hassle. This might be overkill for some but if you are a garden geek like myself it is pure bliss!

The next way to grow is a tried and true method that most have probably seen. Get some pots or if you want to spice it up (see what I did there?) you can use some old coffee mugs, mason jars or anything else really. Fill the pots with some good soil. Then plant some seeds and put those babies on windowsill. There are some cool windowsill kits that you can get so you don’t have to worry about what containers to use etc.

WARNING: The final way is probably my favorite but it can get a tad pricey so be sure to check the pricing before committing to this strategy! The AeroGrow kit is probably my favorite option for the serious garden geek. You can grow up to 6 plants at once. It is probably best suited for herbs but I have fit a small tomato plant and a pepper plant in one individually. The AeroGrow is basically a mini hydroponics unit as the plants grow in water instead of soil. The kit also comes with an LED light.

So there you have it! These are the 3 ways I grow plants in the winter. Hopefully my wasted cash being your crash dummy was worth it.
